After a Tummy Tuck in Manhattan, or Other Cosmetic Procedures, When Is It Safe to Begin Working out?

People who choose to have cosmetic procedures done want to look their best. As such, many patients lead active lifestyles and work out regularly. One of the biggest questions following plastic surgery is: when is it safe to being working out again?  Below we offer advice on when it is safe to work out after everything from a tummy tuck in Manhattan to facial rejuvenation.

After receiving breast implants, you will need to be careful with your chest muscles. Usually, it’s safe to workout the lower body and even participate in mild cardio workouts that don’t involve moving the arms within the first month after the procedure. Stationary bikes are perfect for this form of exercise. Check with your doctor after four weeks to see if you can begin light arm workouts.

Someone undergoing a Manhattan abdominoplasty needs a longer time to recover since the majority of workout regimens use the core muscles in some way. Most likely, it will take at least four weeks before you can begin exercising, and at that time only begin light cardio after consulting with your doctor.

Liposuction recovery can take a long time as well since it involves the core area, but you can generally begin very light cardio workouts after about three weeks. After five or six weeks, mild running and even some weights may be safe, but only at about half the level of intensity you did prior to surgery.

Many think that they can begin exercising quickly after facial rejuvenation procedures, however it’s advisable to wait at least a month to begin exercising. Exercising increases blood pressure which could cause your blood vessels to bleed and a hematoma to develop. After a month you should only begin light cardio. Similarly, exercise could lead to nosebleeds following a rhinoplasty and jeopardize your results

The most important thing to do is to discuss your exercise plan with your surgeon before beginning any form of workout following a cosmetic procedure. While the timelines listed above are guidelines, your individual recovery could be different and you will want to be sure to have tailored advice to maintain the results of your procedure.
