BOTOX® Cosmetic injection is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the United States. When you smile, laugh, frown, or look puzzled, you contract the muscles of your face. Over time, these contractions produce permanent furrows and deep wrinkles in the skin, especially around the eyes (crow’s feet), mouth (marionette lines), between the eyebrows (glabella), and on the forehead. These wrinkles can make you look older, sad, angry, or tired. BOTOX®, or botulinum toxin A, is a therapeutic muscle-relaxing agent approved by the FDA for several different uses. When used for cosmetic purposes, it is a quick, safe, and effective way to reduce or eliminate facial wrinkles without surgery and with little to no downtime and discomfort. With the help of BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dr. Kaufman can give your face a younger, fresher, and rejuvenated look.
Facial fillers, such as Juvéderm™ and Restylane®, are safe, effective, FDA-approved injectable gels that gently smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, and restores volume and contour to the skin of the face. Both are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural, biocompatible, water-binding gel that is found throughout your body. Since it is not of animal or human origin there is no risk of allergic reactions to HA. Facial fillers are designed to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, sculpt lips, and shape facial various contour irregularities. They are especially effective around the nasolabial folds (deep furrows from the root of the nose to the angle of your mouth), and the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows). With minimal patient downtime and discomfort, the results are immediate and natural-looking.
Chemical peels, also known as derma-peels, remove damaged outer layers of skin of the face to smooth texture, reduce scarring, blemishes, fine lines and wrinkles, freckels, irregular skin pigmentation, scaly patches, and sun-damaged skin to produce healthy, glowing, more youthful skin. Under the direct guidance and supervision of Dr. Kaufman, we specifically tailor the formula strength of our peels to each individual patient to optimize results and help create a fresh, natural-appearing complexion.
Autologous fat grafting, also called lipo-injection or fat injection, involves extracting fat cells from one part of the body and relocating it to another area. Typically, fat is removed through liposuction, often from the abdomen, buttocks or thighs, and then processed and injected into the area being treated. Fat grafting is most often used to fill in “sunken” cheeks or laugh lines, correct skin depressions or indentations, minimize forehead wrinkles, and augment the lips. Since the transplanted fat comes from the patient’s own body, fat grafting does not carry a risk of allergic reaction or rejection. Other advantages include a short recovery time, long-lasting results, and effectiveness on any skin type.
Scar revision is performed to reduce the appearance of scars caused by injury or previous surgery. While scars are permanent by definition, surgery can narrow, fade, or otherwise reduce the appearance of severe or unattractive scarring. The effectiveness of scar revision depends on a number of factors, including the nature of the injury, your body’s own healing potential, the size and depth of the scar, and surgical technique employed. Dr. Kaufman will consult with you and help you decide which method is best for your scar revision.
Laser hair removal is safer, faster, and a more effective procedure to eliminate unwanted hair than electrolysis, waxing, or tweezing. The primary principle behind laser hair removal is selective photothermolysis. This means that the laser selectively heats the area that causes hair growth (the follicle), with little or no damage to the surrounding skin. Laser hair removal works on individual hair follicles during their growth cycle to deliver consistent, lasting results regardless of skin color or body area.
Lasers can also be used to selectively target the pigment of tattoos without damaging the surrounding skin. The energy produced by the laser causes the tattoo pigment to fragment into smaller particles that are then removed by the body’s immune system. After careful consultation with Dr. Kaufman, the right energy level can be chosen to optimize your results.
Varicose veins appear as snarled, bluish-purple lines, usually forming on the legs. Varicose veins often cause a cosmetic concern, but can also lead to more serious conditions and complications, including leg pain and swelling, discoloration of the skin, inflammation of the veins, blood clots, bleeding, skin ulcers, or other circulatory system disorders. The condition results when the small valves in the vein lose the ability to push blood back up to the heart. As a result, the blood pools and the vein puffs up and becomes more visible under the skin. Spider veins are a mild variation of varicose veins which usually do not cause symptoms. They can result from pregnancy, use of oral contraception, hormone therapy, the aging process, or heredity.
Varicose and spider veins can be treated with many different approaches, including injection therapy, laser treatment, endovenous thermal ablation, and surgical vein stripping. Dr. Kaufman will conduct a comprehensive evaluation to determine the severity of your condition, and the most appropriate and effective treatment.
KYBELLA® is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.” It is not known if KYBELLA® is safe and effective for use outside of the submental area. The injection contains a naturally occurring molecule which eats away at fat. When injected properly, all other cells are left healthy and intact.
